Free College Admissions Essays: MIT :: College Admissions Essays
MIT Admissions Essay I may seem to be somebody with many unconnected facets and talents once you have read all the other essays on this application. This essay is intended to slap together a few of the pieces of myself that I have displayed here. The human race is immortal ( that was a doozy wasnt it ). There is nothing that forces us to decay into old age and die, this is merely our body destroying itself once our aspiration ( reproduction ) is complete. Evolution not only did not bother to select against genes that kill off people past 40, but to some degree selected for such genes the faster we go through generations, the faster we evolve. If the genes that cause the changes we associate with old age were suppressed in some chemical way, we would be capable of fadeless life. Another way to immortality would involve the building of a biomechanical body of some sort, something right out of a Terminator movie, that would support the brain with only the chemicals necessary to survival ( if we could determine which those are ) and thus avoid the effect of aging genes. All of this genetic, biochemical and hydraulic research would be based on experience gained in college. One other thing weve all heard of cults that claim they have discovered immortality in some way, which supposedly have members whove lived 200 years. If theres change surface a shred of truth in any of that, my guess is that these 200-year veterans have managed to order their minds in some way ( through some arcane look of thinking perhaps ) that erased the biological clock. All in all, immortality is only one small thing that humans might be capable of. The strange abilities seen in autistic people, like incredible number crunching speed, really are not unique to autistic people. These abilities are buried deep in everyones subconscious, and it is just a matter of our minds letting us use them or not. In fact, I think that along with those mathematical abilities are buried many more abilities. I feel sure that among them is perfect coordination, and there might be some really strange psychic or time-related abilities as well. The subconscious is driven by its creator, evolution. It is only concerned with reproduction. Evolution has erected a barrier between ourselves and our potential, and lets ability seep through to those who have desirable traits and are intended to reproduce.

The Little Prince :: essays research papers
THE LITTLE PRINCEThe Little Prince was one of the first books that got me interested in reading. I got it as a present from my mother when I was nine in concert with Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Since then, I swallow gotten it as gift four clock and read it at least ten times. After each reading, I seem to know away with different insights from the book depending on what stage of my emotional state I was in or what my situation was. It strikes me that this book, first published in 1943, holds timeless truths on many different levels. It tells the truth of love, the truth of perspective, and the truth of childhood innocence, to name just a few.Of all the people who teach us about lifes meaning it is not the Socrates or the Platos of the world that we find truly touching or moving. Instead, we find that simple nave people cigaret fissure us the most profound insights into life because of this very simplicity. They offer us a new perspective on things that we take for granted or things that we drop dead to even stop to look at. The beauty of a flower or a friendship can be easily overlooked unless it is brought to light with the eyes of a child or character possessing the same qualities of untainted observation that children so often have. It is this innocence and simplicity that sticks to my mind and that impacts me the most. It reminds me to go mainstay to basics and to re-learn to relax and to appreciate the simple pleasures that life brings. Sometimes I get too caught up in everyday realities that I forget what is rattling important to me my family and friends. How many times do we miss the message of love that people send to us because we are too busy? How many times have we missed the signs that people around us are seeking desperately for a simple gesture of love - a smile, a wave, a kind touch on the hands or shoulders or simply a gentle look? I sometimes forget how these simple gestures can change or affect lives of people around me. I do not have to knock myself out to help others I simply have to show I care. The Little Prince is a good novel, in great part, because it has very entertaining characters.

My Position in Maslowââ¬â¢s Hierarchy Of Needs Essay
In Maslows hierarchy of needs, I would like to see myself in the fourth level. I must say I am already fulfilled when it comes to physiological, safety, and belongingness needs. As I grow hoar, I realize my needs and as I pass away mature I started to aim for satisfaction. I have a very supportive family and I could say that I have gained a lot of friends along my journey whom I can consider as part of my success. I am no longer a child to aim for belongingness nor too old to aim for self actualization, I am assuage on my quest for achievement and reputation.Even though, I have already finished my college education, I still have a lot of plans for my future. Just like what Marlows say about the needs of a person, esteem needs talks about the pride. I must say I am already in the stage where I am aiming for some others recognition and respect. Since I have a strong belief that respect and reputation are gained not scarcely through kindness, I am still planning for more not only t o have them but also because those achievements are what I consider as real success in ones life. In my two decades of existence, I have learn to value the achievements that I have gained and aim for more as I grow old. When a person desire for independence and competence, I must say that that is the time when he or she is already satisfied with his or her other needs. That is what I feel for myself right now. I have learned to mingle with different kinds of people for more knowledge, go to different places for adventure, and face adversaries to win every competition. I won a lot of friends but I have also encountered a lot of enemies on my way to what I called success. Maybe because I have been considered as competent and a imagineer, what I already have right now seem not enough for me to be satisfied.I think that is because I am still young to stop and be satisfied for what I have gained in my short journey of life. I also think that being a member of a family of achievers gives me an inspiration to dream more and go further than what I have already accomplished. The prominent people around me give me encouragement to make all my plans reachable. Apparently, my goal in life and my perspective of satisfaction rely heavily on my quest for independence, respect, and reputation. I have realized that I am already satisfied with other needs in life and those things that I want to do today reflect what I want to be in the future.

George Washington surrendered after the French attacked a month late r. 46. Albany Plan of Union (179) The Albany Congress created The Albany Plan of Union in 1754. It called for a chief executive, supreme governor, and a supreme assembly. It was the basis of the current democracy system. 7. King George III (183) King George III wanted to seek peace and eventually end the French and Indian War and he forced Pitt out of office. He gave England control of most of the United States. 48. Join or kick downstairs (180) Join or Die was the first political cartoon created by Ben Franklin. It was created to unite the colonies against the French in 1754. 49. French and Indian War (177) The French and Indian War began after Virginias crossed into French territory to trade with Indians and survey land granted to them by the king. This made the French mad. In 1755, a British fleet captured Nova Scotia and killed most of its French population. The French had a victory, which demonstrated that backwoods warfare depended upon Indian allies and frontier tactics. In 1 756 the colonial war became the cardinal Years War in Europe. Pitt offered people of the colonies subsidies for their help in the war effort. The tides turned in 1758 when the English captured a French fort and the Iroquois (French allies) called off attacks on the English. 50.Treaty of Paris of 1763 (183) The Treaty of Paris of 1763 ended the French and Indian War and ended French power in America. England took all French will power east of the Mississippi River and Spanish Florida. England invited the Spanish to stay there, but most left and sold their land really cheap to the English. The lands given to the English from the French werent the Frenchs to give, it was Indian land. The Indians struck back and killed people and raided forts. These attacks convinced most colonists that Indians were bad.

Nowadays games have become the resource that helps kids and grownups perceive the information, as there are new advanced attacks that help to explicate everything bette r and as a consequence people remember easy. A typical characteristic of games is a combination of repeat and surprise.A Therefore, the art of compiler games is in the right dose of repeat and surprise. However, the game is the first thing that a individual wants to play, and though this want may non be wholly motivated, it is still a passing single.Games do non automatically take to learning.A If we want to guarantee changeless communicating between the game and instruction at the school, so this can be achieved that by conveying the spirit of the game in the ordinary school life, instead than merely utilizing some educational games.A The instructor, as an organiser of the game should dissonant up the seeds of its ain game started and should learn, presenting into the procedure of larning the elements of the game.Construction of the educational procedure is based on cognition of the construction of educational activities, and other psychological features integral to the schoolb oy.A This cognition is chiefly incorporated in the course of study they determine the methods and techniques of training.A But since they are present at that place in a hidden, unquestioning signifier, the instructor would be helpful to follow the trust on a psychological phenomenon that suggests one method or another that changes in preparation activities or the individuality of the pupil it should entail.A For illustration, the thought of the types of preparation activities and their relationship to take to the usage at certain phases of the materialized signifier of action with a assortment of strategies, thoughts about the formation and transportation techniques of cognitive activity, to organize them at assorted educational stuffs, etc.It is k instantaneouslyn that in preschool age acquisition of new cognition in the game is much more successful than in the classroom.A The kid, fascinated by an engaging construct of the new game, as if no notice of what he learns, although he now and so faces troubles, which require accommodation of its representations and cognitive activity.AIn today s pre-school educational teaching method and instruction, the value of the game in the rule is recognized.A The game is merely a tool for a kid to be able to larn what he still can non. However, the tremendous potency of educational games ( didactical, games with regulations, etc. ) are by and large non used.A The repertory of these games is really hapless and covers a narrow scope of undertakings, particularly small concerted games that involve the whole group.A There are virtually no games aimed at the development of strong-minded, good qualities of the individual and the formation of human dealingss between kids. Educational game this is non any action with didactic stuff and is non a game response at the compulsory preparation sessions.A This is specific, full and quite content for kids s activities and besides it has its motivations and its methods of action.Develo ping games are characterized by the fact that they contain a ready game program, proposed by the kid, the drama stuff, and rules.A The end of a game ever has two facets 1 ) cognitive, for illustration, what should we learn a kid, what modes of action with the objects we want him to reassign, 2 ) educational, for illustration, the ways of cooperation, signifiers of communicating and relationships to other people who should educate kids. In both instances the end of the game should be formulated non as a transportation of specific cognition and accomplishments, every bit good as the development of certain mental procedures or abilities of the kid.The game program is that the game state of affairs, in which the kid is introduced, and which he perceives as his own.A This is achieved if underdeveloped games are based on the specific demands and dispositions of kids, every bit good as characteristics of their experience.A The liking of certain things gives a significance to their activit ies.A In all instances, the game program is implemented in bet oning activities that are offered to a kid when the game took topographic point.Game action ever includes a acquisition job, which all kids have, indispensable to personal success in the game and their emotional connexion with other participants. performance larning undertaking requires the kid s active rational and volitional attempt, but it besides gives the greatest satisfaction.A The content of the preparation undertakings can be rather wide-ranging Make non run in front of clip or name of the topic, clip to happen the image for some clip, memorise a few points, etc. Finally, an of import characteristic of the game is the game rules.A Rules of the game are brought to mind the kids of the program, game action and acquisition undertaking. For the game to actuate kids and to impact them personally, an grownup must(prenominal) go a direct participant.A By their actions, emotional communicating with big kids involves them in joint activities, doing it an of import and meaningful to them.A It becomes like a centre of attractive force in the game.A It is really of import in the early phases of acquiring acquainted with the new game, particularly for younger preschoolers.A At the same clip an grownup arranges the game, and so it helps kids to get the better of troubles, to promote conformity and to observe their errors.A The combination of two different grownup functions participant and organiser is an of import characteristic in developing the game.Due to the fact that the educational game includes active and meaningful activities for kids, which he volitionally and voluntarily activates, the new experience gained in it, it becomes his personal belongings, as it can be easy applied in other contexts ( and hence the demand to consolidate the new knowledgeA disappears ) .A In add-on, many games teach kids to move in head , to believe what liberates the imaginativeness of kids, develops their originat ive abilities and capacities.Educational game is a reasonably effectual manner of organizing such qualities as organisation, self-denial, etc. The joint nature of the game is of a great importance, in which the instructor and equal group encourages the kid to follow with the regulations, for illustration, the witting control of their actions.A As a effect of a underdeveloped game, a kid learns the regulations of the game better, uses his originative thought and gives his new thoughts and takes determinations. Gradually, there are requirements to the formation of witting behaviour and self-denial, which is the practical development of moral standards.A Game regulations are like normal behaviour in a group, conveying a new societal experience.AAll in all, developing games are really helpful for kids and grownups. They help to happen originative thoughts, to understand of import things and to look at the state of affairs at a different angle. Therefore, in early childhood developing ga mes contain a versatile environment for the formation of the most valuable qualities of the individual.A However, to do their development effectual, there should be torso in the choice of games.

Context Aware Data Center Allocation
The method to find a proper information vegetable marrow is found on six contextual parameters 1) Geographical blank space network delay) between a consumer and information tickers, 2) Workload of from each one data center 3)Power usage forcefulness 4)Network monitoring 5)Facility monitoring 6)Allocation delay time. The maked model can successfully portion out the decanter based on above mentioned parameters. Objective or Aim To allocate each consumer request to an appropriate data center among the distributed data centers based on the location Of consumer and the location of data centers.Scope Using the proposed model can take over fast allotment time, but excessively future response time. The proposed model can successfully allocate the data center tit minimum distance between drug user and data center, workload, power usage effectiveness, network traffic, allocation delay, good facility. Problem Statement Mapped/Reducer provider computing service providers throw th eir options to consumers as a service, for example, softw be, platform and Infrastructure. Those services are based on the demands of the consumers, and the provider offers the services to consumers through brutalized imagerys. The imagings of the providers are usually hosted by a data center. Since the location of consumer is different in geographically, a service provider should have strutted data centers throughout the world to deliver its services. Therefore, to find an appropriate data center for a consumer request is very much necessary. Existing System Dynamic resource allocation problem is one of the most challenging problems in the resource management problems. In 7 authors have explained the algorithm for negotiation protocol for resource provisioning in detail. In authors have made a comparison of many resource allocation strategies. In 9 authors propose a model and a utility function for location- aware dynamic resource allocation. A comprehensive comparison of resourc e allocation policies is covered in 10. In 1 1, authors propose an adaptive resource allocation algorithm for the Mapped/Reducer Provider system with predictable tasks in which algorithms adjust the resource allocation adaptively based on the updates of the actual task counterinsurgency Allocation 1 2 is a subject that has been addressed in many computing areas, such as operating systems, grid computing, and data center management. For example, developers can have network requirements, such as bandwidth and delay, and computational requirements, such as CAP, memory and storage. The RA should guide with these unpredictable requests in an elastic and transparent way. This elasticity should allow the dynamic use of physical resources, thus avoiding both under-provisioning and over provisioning of resources. Proposed System In this project, we propose a Context aware data center allocation model which allocates the consumers request to an appropriate data center. Here, we assume the VIM run on the providers data centers infinitely after they are successfully allocated. Also, the VIM allocated in only one data center. Context aware data center allocation is knowing to demonstrate the data enter allocation. In this model we have consumer and Mapped/Reducer Provider service provider, and coordinator agent. Coordinator agent works on behalf of each consumer and Mapped/Reducer Provider service provider. System Architecture Working Principle In this project, we assume the VIM run on the providers data centers infinitely after they are successfully allocated. Also, the VIM allocated in only one data center. That means a VIM has not allocated a VIM in multiple data centers to choke off the consumer requests. For this reason, the workload of each data center has not appears on its resource availability, but the allocated Vims specification (number of Cups) in the data center. Context aware data center allocation is designed to demonstrate the data center allocation. In th is model we have consumer and Mapped/Reducer Provider service provider, and coordinator agent. Coordinator agent works on behalf of each consumer and Mapped/Reducer Provider service provider. In this model, a Mapped/Reducer Provider service provider consists of several data centers that are geographically distributed.Likewise, there are consumers that are geographically distributed, or else they may be moving entities. The intent aware data center allocation model consists of different kind of agents 1) substance abuser Agent, 2) Coordinator Agent, and 3) Monitoring Agent. In this agents 1) User Agent, 2) Coordinator Agent, and 3) Monitoring Agent User Agent A user agent sends a demand to the coordinator agent by direct an allocation request message on behalf of a consumer. Request message format is as follows Request (allocation_ARQ_size, Location details of user). The user agent waits to overhear an allocation result message from the coordinator agent. Coordinator Agent A coordin ator agent is responsible to coordinate resource allocations for geographically disturbed data centers and consumer. The coordinator agent finds an appropriate data center for a consumer request. When the coordinator agent receives an allocation request, the agent evaluate each data center to allocate the consumer request based on the location of consumer, workload on data center, Power usage, Facility monitoring, Network monitoring, and allocation delay latency of data centers.Functional Requirements The functional requirements for a system describe what the system should do. These requirements depend on the type of software being developed, the expected users of the software and the general approach taken by the organization when writing requirements. When expressed as user requirements, the requirements are usually described in a fairly abstract way. However, functional system requirements describe the System function in detail, its inputs and outputs, exceptions, and so on.Funct ional requirements are as follows The proposed system should allocate each consumer request to an appropriate data center among the distributed data centers The proposed model can expect fast allocation time, and also future response time. Non-Functional Requirement Non-functional requirements, as the name suggests, are requirements that are not directly concerned with the specific functions delivered by the system. They may relate to rising system properties such as reliability, response time and store occupancy.

Janmar Coating case study Essay
This case is about an government activity doing business on cay coatings market served by family in the southwestern United States. The organization has some ch whollyenges on how to deploy selling efforts among the various architectural samara coatings markets served in the southwestern United States.1. Janmar finish, Inc. Janmar Coating, Inc. is a privately held organization produces and markets architectural paint under Janmar brand name. In addition to producing a full line of architectural coatings, the company sells paint sundries (brushes, rollers, thinner, etc.) under the Janmar name, even though these item argon not manufactured by the company. 2. Architectural painting Industry sources estimated U. S sales agreements of architectural paint coatings and sundries (brushes, rollers, paint removers and thinners, etc) to be 12 billion summation in 2004.Architectural coating are considered to be mature market with long term sales growth projected in the range of 1 to 2 p ercent per year. Demand for architectural coatings and sundries and sundries reflects the level of house redecorating, nourishment, and repair, as well as sales existing homes, and to a lesser extent new-made home, commercial, and industrial construction.2. 0 Identify Problem 1. Competitor The competition in Architectural coating segment are increasing. Companies seeking growth and a high sales base to support increasing costs are making acquisition. Major products of paint for the architectural coatings segment include Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, the Glidden unit of royal Chemicals, PPG Industries, Valspar Corporation, Grow group and Pratt & Lambert. These producers account upward for 60% of sales in architectural coatings segment. They market under their own brand names andfor retailers under private, influenceled and strain brand names. 2. Volatile Organic Compound (VOCs) U. S paint manufacturer are under growing pressure to reduce emissions volatile organic commingle (VOCs) from paints and to limit the consumption of solvents. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has adopted a three step plan for reduction of VOCs in architectural and industrial maintenance coatings. Compliance with EPA regulations eroded historically low profit margins in paint industry.3 DFW and Non DFW Janmar Coating, Inc.market its paint and sundry item in over 50 countries in Texas, Okhlahoma, New Mexico, and Lousiana from its plant and headquarter in Dallas, Texas. The 11- Country Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) metropolitan world is the major business and financial center in their companys southwestern service area. According to Vice president of sales we wipe out added altogether five accounts in the five years our account cleverness in non DFW areas is 16% . 3. 0 Consider relevant information There are some alternatives that should be considered 1. Customer advertising awareness at to the lowest degree 30 percent among do-it-yourselfers.As per Vice President of Adv ertising, Ron, he believed that they must direct their efforts towards bolstering their presence in the DFW do-it-yourselfer market by at least 30 percent. The awareness is well related to paint purchase behavior. Through advertising, the customers will be aware about the Janmar Coatings paint as well as they study seen it been advertised via media. However according to Mr. Burns, advertising is not a good idea since he did not sure what advertising it is because 75 percent of the consultation in DFW is not buying paint. He suggested that the cost of advertising amounted $350,000 used for advertising in non DFW areas. 2. Price cut by 20 percent of all paint products. Based on Vice President of Operations, he suggested that they must cut price by 20 percent on all their products to happen customers wants. It is because the customers are price sensitive due to the research program. Their price is still higher than a mass merchandisers although they have advertised price-off special. scarce as per Mr. Burns, their sale congresswoman has forecasted that their demand for paint will not increase next year. Therefore, they cannot cut price this year. 3. Hire a sale representative costing $60,000 a year in non DFW areas. Vice President of Sales wants to develop a new retail account in non DFW areas after only five accounts for the last 5 years. They want to focus on non DFW areas because half of their sales and dealers exist in that particular area. It has been asking by Mr. Burns on what the sale representative will do, either focusing on retail account side or on recruiting the professional painter.70 percent of sale is through their professional painters in DFW areas, while 70 percent of sale went to do-it-yourselfers in non DFW areas. They would need 40 percent price cut to attract contractors since they have minimum number of contractor sale in DFW and other areas. 4. Maintaining their current approach. Referring to Vice President of Finance, he want to pursue the current approach because they are in profitable based on contribution margin by 35 percent. The company just needs to admonisher their margin in control their cost well. 4. 0 Choose the best alternativeThe best alternative is sales representative, since it focuses on non DFW areas because half of their sales and dealers exist in that particular area. 5. 0 Implementation of the alternative Based on the case study, the way to implement the problem is through market targeting. There is the way of target the market which is 1. Where to struggle Janmar Coating Inc. needs to specify the market segment that they want to pursue. They need to make marketing improvement in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Non Dallas-Fort Worth (Non-DFW) to compete with their competitors such(prenominal) as Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore and Grow Group. They should pursue the 400 or so professional painting firms in DFW area and the 200 professional painters outside the DFW area or the do-it-yourselfer market. 2. How to compete Janmar Coating Inc. can compete with their rival by increasing the hiring of representative at the DFW area and non-DFW area. This strategy can make Janmar Coating Inc. customers feel convenience and can build a good relationship with them. The representative that had been hired by Janmar Coating Inc. is only eight people. Due to it, they cannot monitor each of the retail outlets all over 50 countries in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Louisiana.By adding representative and allocate them accordingly through the country, they can make a promotion aggressively and can get information about the buying trend of the consumer from the retailers. 3. When to compete Janmar Coating Inc. can start to make their new marketing targeting according to the seasonal or trend of the demand from the consumers. For an example, consumers will be attracting to purchase when there is a promotional allowances during seasonal festival such as Charismas festival. 6. 0 ConclusionIt can be conclude that to make a decision for the problem of where and how to deploy corporate marketing efforts among the various architectural paint coating, the company should adding amount of representative to make a promotion that can increase level of the awareness of the Janmar brand among the consumer. Due to the new strategy, the sales of the architectural paint coating will be increase and it can compete with the rival product. 7. 0 Reference A. Peterson, R. A. (2013). Oracle of Truth
Claim While delivering the commencement speech at Yale University in 2000, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison said Graduates of Yale University, I cond one if you stick out endured this type of prologue before, entirely I want you to do something for me. Please, take a full look around you. Look at the class fellow on your left. Look at the classmate on your right. Now, gestate this five years from now, 10 years from now, even 30 years from now, odds are the person on your left is going to be a loser. The person on your right, meanwhile, will also be a loser. And you, in the middle? What can you expect? Loser. Loserhood. Loser Cum Laude. location False. Origins In July 2000, an inventive story about Oracle CEO Larry Ellison bestowing an unusual commencement speech upon the graduating class of Yale University began popping up in various inboxes. some(a) were left wondering if this could be the real thing, given what is known of Ellisons famed ego, and because the wide circulation of the 1997 Kurt Vonnegut commencement speech hoax had prepared the way for this darn to sanitary plausible. In truth, Ellison did not give a such a speech at Yale, nor whatsoeverwhere else. The article was the fanciful creation of Andrew Marlatt, a writer for the ridicule website, SatireWire. It was reprinted (with SatireWires express permission) on BBspot, another satirical web site. The full text of the piece ELLISON TO GRADS DIPLOMAS ARE FOR LOSERS Oracle CEO Urges Students to Drop out, Start up novel HAVEN, CONN. (SatireWire. com) In one of the more controversial commencement addresses in memory, Oracle CEO and college dropout Larry Ellison told Yales Class of 2000 they were losers whose hard-won diplomas would never propel them into the ranks of the super rich. The evangelical Ellison, noting that college dropouts Bill Gates, capital of Minnesota Allen, and Michael Dell were, like himself, on Forbes recent top 10 list of billionaires, urged freshmen and sophomores at the ceremon y to drop out and start up, and added that the undereducated Yale security guards who ushered him absent stage probably had a better shot at uber-wealth than graduating seniors. What follows is a transcript of the speech delivered by Ellison at the Yale University in conclusion month Graduates of Yale University, I apologize if you have endured this type of prologue before, but I want you to do something for me.Please, take a ood look around you. snopes. com Larry Ellison Loser Commencement Speech http//www. snopes. com/quotes/ellison. asp? print=y ? 1 3? 2012/9/21 1041 Look at the classmate on your left. Look at the classmate on your right. Now, consider this five years from now, 10 years from now, even 30 years from now, odds are the person on your left is going to be a loser. The person on your right, meanwhile, will also be a loser. And you, in the middle? What can you expect? Loser. Loserhood. Loser Cum Laude. In fact, as I look out before me today, I dont see a thousand hop es for a bright tomorrow.I dont see a thousand future leaders in a thousand industries. I see a thousand losers. Youre upset. Thats understandable. After all, how can I, Lawrence Larry Ellison, college dropout, have the audacity to spout such heresy to the graduating class of one of the nations most prestigious institutions? Ill tell you why. Because I, Lawrence Larry Ellison, second richest man on the planet, am a college dropout, and you are not. Because Bill Gates, richest man on the planet for now, whatsoeverway is a college dropout, and you are not. Because Paul Allen, the third richest man on the planet, dropped out of college, and you did not. And for good measure, because Michael Dell, No. 9 on the list and moving up fast, is a college dropout, and you, tho again, are not. Hmm . . . youre very upset. Thats understandable. So let me stroke your egos for a moment by pointing out, quite sincerely, that your diplomas were not attained in vain. Most of you, I imagine, have sp ent four to five years here, and in many ways what youve learned and endured will serve you well in the years ahead. Youve established good work habits. Youve established a network of people that will help you down the road. And youve established what will be lifelong relationships with the word therapy. All that of is good. For in truth, you will need that network. You will need those strong work habits. You will need that therapy. You will need them because you didnt drop out, and so you will never be among the richest people in the world. Oh sure, you may, perhaps, work your way up to No. 10 or No. 11, like Steve Ballmer. But then, I dont have to tell you who he really works for, do I? And for the record, he dropped out of grad school. Bit of a late bloomer. Finally, I realize that many of you, and hopefully by now most of you, are wondering, Is there anything I can do?Is there any hope for me at all? Actually, no. Its too late. Youve take up too much, think you know too much. Youre not 19 anymore. You have a built-in cap, and Im not referring to the mortar boards on your heads. Hmm youre really very upset. Thats understandable. So perhaps this would be a good time to bring up the silver lining. Not for you, Class of 00. You are a write-off, so Ill let you slink off to your pathetic $200,000-a-year jobs, where your checks will be signed by former classmates who dropped out two years ago. Instead, I want to give hope to any underclassmen here today.I say to you, and I cant stress this enough leave. Pack your things and your ideas and dont come back. Drop out. Start up. For I can tell you that a cap and dress will keep you down just as surely as these security guards dragging me off this stage are keeping me down . . . The last line of the piece should have given away the joke, if nothing else did. Larry Ellison being dragged off a stage is a satisfying mental image to ruminate and provides snopes. com Larry Ellison Loser Commencement Speech http//www. sn opes. com/quotes/ellison. asp? print=y ? 2 ? 2012/9/21 1041 a wonderful closing for a piece that would otherwise be difficult to orchestrate an ending for, but thats all it ever could be, even if Ellison had addressed the Yale Class of 2000 and had given that speech. (Which, by the way, he hadnt). antiquated institutions of higher learning have at times chosen keynote speakers theyve later had cause to regret. The price of turning the podium over to another is having to take care politely to the entirety of his address, even if it is offensive. Audiences are still expected to clap at its culmination, and hoever introduced the speaker is still on the hook for thanking him for his insights. Such are the demands of a polite society, with security guards standing poised to remove invited guests who give voice to unpopular sentiments not figuring anywhere into the equation. Should there still be any remnant of doubt about the veracity of the article in question, Yale didnt have a gues t speaker at its 299th graduation ceremony, held in May 2000. Yale seniors trustworthy a more personal address on Class Day, another part of this two-day commencement ceremony. The keynote speaker for that event was Bob Woodward, who graduated from Yale in 1965. (His investigation of the Watergate break-in helped win a Pulitzer Prize for The Washington Post in 1973. ) Larry Ellison is a prime choice for such lampooning because this thrice-married, thricedivorced multimillionaire is known for living bigger than life. Leadership and multiple ways of looking at the world
Human reputation is not an easy term to define, but every days activities of an individual revolve around the military man nature of that somebody. The nature of a person may dictate such things as, how to handle various situations, how does one relate with others etc. on that pointfore human nature is both a product of physical environment of an individual and the biological aspects that a person might have inherited from the ancestors.A serious personThere are varied viewpoints on how one should be a good person. This is affected by the incorrupt obligation of a person on how they perceive a good person to be and how they can achieve that. The troupe has got some moral standards that have been set which happens to be static and potent (Schein, 1992). But with the gestalt that guides a good person, they happen to be flexible and dynamic. A good person impart first envision a certain expression, work out it and compare its out conform to with what is the standard of the goo d. The outcome of the comparison will make the person consider whether taking the behavior or not.The choice is then do according to what fits the goodness described. Therefore, the judgment of a good person depends on how the individual takes that judgment. Moral behavior is an important concept of identity of a good person. Apart from moral uprightness, good character also is part of a good person. Within good characters, will obviously lay good moral behavior. To profit some good personalities in the organization, it is good to give rewards to those considered to be of good quality character. Many of the things that might come in mind when a person is asked just about qualities of a good person are those who are kind, helpful, caring, understanding and patient. In close cases a just person will authentically try as much as possible to do to others what he/she might also want it done to them. This implies that rewards and punishment should be given where it is repayable suppos ed to be.Therefore people in a group who will show kindness and understanding to others deserve reward. These are people who in most cases will also be helpful to others and show patience whenever they feel that something is not going as much as they like. With rewarding this, it will increase the development of good characters as the physical environment rather than only depending on the inherited traits can also influence human nature. According to Schein (1992), rewards acts as an incentives of making people to learn. Therefore, people who show kindness to others and obey law also deserve reward. In legion(predicate) organization people have been subjected to reprisal actions because of organism whistleblowers. In any organization, if the management does not follow the laid down procedures and ethical behaviors there are high chances of employees with good characters to disclose such prostitute doings. Many managers have developed the art of bureaucracy and autocracy in the orga nization that they dont give room for the employees to give their views. But many people do not want to talk about their organizational problems in public due to the fact that they feel that it is dirty politicizing their organization (Morgan, 2004).There can be cases such as embezzlement of funds, mistreating of employees and favoritism in the organization. Such behaviors, especially fund embezzlement requires employees with a strong character who believes in upright morality to disclose the information or else, it may remain a silent matter and thus at the end hurt the organization. high gear & Low mount cultivation in the organization.High circumstance socialization refers to a situation where by a group of people in the society have had a close relationship spanning for a long period of time. In this socialization, there is high emphasis on interpersonal relationships. With this kind of culture in place people develop a high sense of trust among themselves, set personal m atter to aside and concentrating on the general interest of the group or society. The events in this culture can only can ony be understood in context, (Schein, 1992).On the other hand low context culture represents a society of people with so many connections but only spanning for a short period of time. In this culture, logic, factors and directness are passing valued. Therefore problems in the organization have to be lined up and then solve one aft(prenominal) the other. Decisions concerning problems have to be based on the factors rather than intuition. There are various differences between the high and low context culture. In the high context culture, the group members have a long-term relationship with strong boundaries. They consider the relationship to be more important than the tasks performed. Contrary in the low context culture, it is characterized by shorter relationships with no strong boundaries, putting the tasks ahead of the relationship. According to Schein, group leaders sets the boundaries musical composition the group members are the one to test the effectiveness of the boundaries.Another different between the two is the breastwork to project. High contexts strong boundaries create a big problem for any outsider to enter the relationship as compared to the low relationship, which allows for outsiders to enter easily. This is because the low context culture has a unidirectional culture as compared to the mutual casualty of high context. My workplace is an example of a low context culture. This is because of the following, it is not difficult to enter the organization as long as one has the required qualification and there is a vacancy, then equal chances of betrothal are given to all the individuals output is highly considered than his/her relationship with the organization there are objectives that the organization has to achieve, one after the other starting from the nimble objectives to long term any decision made or arrived at has to be based on facts of the business environment.Social construction Reality. When people come together and interact for a certain period, they form a culture that arises because of the mode they decide to behave or influences certain behavior. In such cases, the behavior might lead to certain conventional rules of behavior differentiating this group from the other groups in the society. According to Morgan (2004), when we talk of culture, we are usually referring to the pattern of development reflected in a societys system of knowledge, ideology, values, laws, and day-to-day ritual, (pp 116).In constructing the social realities, there are factors about certain behaviors that have been put in place, these have consists of objective factors. The constructing of social realities depends on both the physical and social realities. In physical reality, it represents a certain organization, for instance a workplace, school, or churches, while the social reality will consist of the inhabitan ts of the physical reality. The rules that are formed and followed by human being in the physical reality ends up modify the whole original physical reality. For instance, when an organization puts down certain values embedded in the organizations motto, it is not that it is the physical organization that brought about the motto, but rather that the humans just came up with the belief and have made it a universal belief. All those who will be coming after the original thinkers and proponents of the motto will also have to follow akin suit and behave in the same manner. This kind of values of the organization governs its members. In continued development of the values, it forms the basis of the organizational culture. There is no any correct culture, as many organizations happen to compete each other. Therefore, the correct culture is only that which helps the organization to achieve its goals and objectives (Schein, 1992).When an organization finds certain means of doing its duties to achieve the objectives it becomes now a habit for all of that community to follow same suit. This implies that it will be a habitualization of the organization to be performing those activities in that manner in future. The problem with habitualization in the organization is that it narrows down the other means of doing the same job in a different way that may be beneficial to the organization.ReferenceMorgan. Linear correlation coefficient and linear regression principles
Flouris, Metsios and Koutedakis (2006) studied the contribution of muscular strength in cardio-respiratory fitness tests, which argon multistage shuttle get off test (MSR), square shuttle run test (SSR) and maximal science lab salt mine test (MT). The last minutes of an endurance race depended on muscular strength and anaerobic power. in that respect only has no write up yet on how lower extremity muscular strength performed in cardio respiratory fitness tests. The purpose of this study is to determine the levels of muscular strength independent using MT, MSR, and SSR.The participants of the study were thirty-eight estimable male individuals aged between 18 and 29 years old. To qualify for healthy individuals, those who smoke and hard benign medical history, were excluded from the study. Participants visit the data collection sites individually on trinity different occasions phased with a minimum of 96 hours between assessments. All these three assessments were done inside tw o weeks. Time of assessment was between late morning and early afternoon. The first visit was for laboratory assessments 1) progressive maximal laboratory treadmill test (MT) to exhaustion, where maximal attained speed (MAS) and maximal group O uptake (VO2MAX) were measured, and 2) isokinetic dynamometry, where measures of concentric peak torques of knee extensors (PTEX) and flexors (PTFL) and combined torque generated by twain legs (PTC) were obtained. The remaining visits were for the survey assessments of 20 meter multistage shuttle run test (MSR) and 20 meter square shuttle run test (SSR), where for each test the maximal attainment speed was measured. The linear regression analysis utilize in the square shuttle run test (SSR) was the equation MASMSR = PTEX + PTFL + PTC. The beta-coefficients derived through the regression analysis however were not reported. From the isokinetic dynamometry measures, only combined peak torques of both legs had significant R2 increase, which was 0.04. This means that combined peak torques of both legs explained four percent of the variation in the data for maximal attained speed while performing the square shuttle run test. The relationship between MASMSR and PTFL was found to be highly positive, r(38)=0.58, p

Space Exploration Advantages
For those who believe the costs of space exploration atomic number 18 greater than the benefits, George Delucas, an astronaut who flew on the 1992 Columbia mission, says, There entrust always be people who would resembling to put an end to space travel, but I dont think that is what our population wants or needs. Our county has always been about exploration and the pursuit of knowledge (Delucas qtd. in Malick 3). This quote generalizes the attitude many Americans arouse toward the space program. When the Apollo 11 crew successfully landed on the moon, the crew and millions of Americans were filled with pride and a sense of accomplishment. What most citizens do not realize is how much knowledge and new technology the join States gained through Apollo 11 and the other space missions. Some of these citizens do not believe a brisk need for the space program exists. To them, the space program is just a waste of money and kind-hearted lives. The recent Columbia disaster that resulted in the loss of seven American lives only supports their argument. However, it is not workable way to measure the loss of life and money over the advances in knowledge, technology, and medicine. The only known concomitant is that the exploration of space has. Space exploration is a big part of American history and has been shrouded with rivalry for years and years. Space exploration is defined as the investigation of physical conditions in space and on stars, planets, and their moons through the use of artificial satellites, space probes, and spacecraft with human crews (Whitehouse). From the space race with Russia to unmanned lunar probes, space exploration inspires and enlightens every person that comes in contact with it. One example of an inspiring outlet in space exploration was the Apollo project. The Apollo missions were quite possibly the most popular and publicized events in American history. The Apollo missions were often disastrous, successful, triumphant, and also neut ral and routine. Throughout all the publicity and controversy space exploration will remain in American and world history forever and will continue to live in the heart of Man.

Asian Countries
Asian countries are strong in culture values and intelligent minds. It prevail given return to popular celebrities, celebrated priests and good politicians, (Sweetman, K. 2012). However, Malaysia, capital of capital of Singapore and Indonesia are multi-ethnic societies with Malays, Chinese and Indians, (Commisceo Global. 2018).These countries are on ethnicities retain their customs, religions and life historystyles. In Malaysia, hoi polloi are maintain face and avoid shame. This makes Malaysian strive for harmonious births. Indonesia is large diverse dry land which have great deal of attention from it government to maintain a cohesion, (Commisceo Global. 2018). Singapore have concepts of group, concord and mutual security are much important than individual. They also emphasize loyalty, unity and respect for elder.POWER DISTANCEAccording to Geert, military unit distance is attitude of culture towards inequalities in the society, (Hofstede, G. 2011). Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia are scores higher than 71 which is bonnie score of Asian countries, (Sweetman, K. 2012). This shows that Asian culture is more paternalistic, hence people expect and accept distinct incomes and privileges, (Fanggy, P and Brian, S. 2014).Subordinates maintain a distance from the bosses and have sense of respect and fear, (Fanggy, P and Brian, S. 2014). In information system, teachers are treated with respect and class is strict order. Moreover, Parents have big authority and respect to parents and hoary lasts during whole life. Therefore, children are not supported to be initiative. In comparison, Malaysia has higher power distance comparability to Singapore and Indonesia. This is because of Malay feudal system and the influence of British, (Fanggy, P and Brian, S. 2014). Thus, Malay culture is very humble of a complex of titled classes and untitled commoners and to great power to top of organisation.INDIVIDUALISMMalaysia, Singapore and Indonesia are accommodate towar ds a collectivism culture, meaning that the group is more important than individual, (Merkin, R. 2015). Responsibility exists and when one participant breaks the prevail then the whole group feels disgraced. Therefore, these countries give more importance to family. Furthermore, harmony is very crucial and unde marginined conflict is avoided, (Globig. 2010). Saving face for other is always a purpose and bosses always calm and respectful, (Globig. 2010).In comparison, Indonesian are highly collective comparing with Malaysia and Singapore. This is because they hold their traditions tightly. The principle of Bhineka Tunggal IKa (unity in diversity) was adopted for the republic, (Rahmawati, M. 2010). Moreover, they idea regarding depression in God, humanity, tolerance, democracy and justice are incorporated in the Pancasila (five principle) which reflects countrys way of life as the demonstration of collectivism, (Rahmawati, M. 2010).MASCULINITYMasculinity focus on societies with assertiveness, materialism and achievements whereas femininity refer to societies of autoing, modesty and quality of life, (Blog on Linguistics. 2013). According to Geert, on that point are slightly differences between Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Despite, Malaysia is in middle, that consensus and sympathy are important, as are world modest and humble. However, Singapore and Indonesia have minor masculinity which consider as femininity. These countries are affable relationship oriented and give importance to quality of life rather than money. Also these give high priority for environmental protection rather than economic growth.UNCERTAINTY AVOIDANCEUncertainty avoidance is the way society handles with the things that will happen in future, (Hofstede, G. 2011). According to the chart, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia are low preference for avoiding uncertainty which are willing to take guess and try new in life. Furthermore, the countries are prefer to maintain more relax ed attitude and punctuality do not come naturally. In addition, these countries are comfortable with ambiguity and chaos and there is no bother when change jobs.In comparison, although all countries are weak in uncertainty avoidance, Singapore has very low uncertainty avoidance. In other words, Singaporean accepts the change easily and they state their country as charming country, (Hofstede, G. 2011). Another reason, they also maintain greater level of tolerance towards unorthodox ideas. Therefore, Singapore is more creative than other countries.LONG-TERM ORIENTATIONLong term orientation prefer future more importance than past and present, (Hofstede, G. 2011). According to the Geert, Singapore and Indonesia are long term orientated culture which known as pragmatism, (Hofstede, G. 2011). Basically, it support long term investment, respect to knowledge, honesty, openness to new thought, responsibility and self-discipline, (Blog on Linguistics. 2013). Therefore, Singapore and Indone sia have strong propensity to and and invest for future, at the same time also focuses on quick result. In other hand, Malaysia is get around term orientated culture which have more focus on their personal well-being and throw off very low on environment, (Blog on Linguistics. 2013). Malaysian are primarily respect tradition peculiarly Malays. An addition, they also more concern with face saving and fulfil social obligations. Therefore, they are more independence and focus on quick result compare to Singapore and Indonesia.INDULGENCEIndulgent societies allow free gratification related to enjoying life and have fun, (Globig. 2010). Therefore, Malaysia is indulgent country which majority are happy and most of them are obese. Malaysian have perception of personal life control and focuses more on leisure. Moreover, they educated population with higher birth rates. In other hand, Indonesia have restrained societies that suppress of needs and regulate them by strict social norms, (Glob ig. 2010).Hence, Indonesian give lower importance for the leisure. Only few people involved in sports. rustic with enough food but less obese people. However, Singapore falls in the middle on this dimension.RECOMMENDATIONAs a recommendation, Malaysia should improve on long term orientation. Long term working towards future goal and maintain harmonious relationship for future. Moreover, in business, long term investment will get more profit. Thus, can build strong market position. Singapore should improve on higher uncertainty avoidance. Therefore, Singapore could have more structure and rule, which people do not make mistakes. For example, can reduce car collisions. It also will increase security rather than taking risks. Indonesia should improve on individualism. It brings respects on individual rights and do not require people to change their true personalities for society. Furthermore, individual society prompt people to strive for success. Moreover, individualism can reduce the countrys tax pay.

Paulââ¬â¢s Teachings Essay
1. Essay on the Epistle to the GalatiansThe New Testament Book Epistle to the Galatians is ascribed by the Catholic church building to St. Paul but now believed to be written by early Christian missioner Paul of Tarsus to the early Christian communities in Galatia, then a Roman province. It was an intensely personal letter wherein Paul primarily tackled the circumcision issue during those early days of Christianity. The issue of circumcising Gentile converts, considered to be culturally nervous to Romans, was then being hotly debated. In the Epistle, Paul cautions against the introduction of Jewish practices, such as circumcision, into the union of Christians. The circumcision debate written in Galatians was important for St. Paul because he wanted to point out to the Gentiles that the prescriptions that set the day-to-day lives of the Jews under the Law of Moses ar meant to lead men to salvation through Christ. Some Galatian converts or Judaizers at that time insisted that reflex ion of the Law, including circumcision, abstinence and certain ritual purifications, was prerequisite to being good or perfect Christians.During the Old Testament, circumcision served as a mans overt pledge to the complete observance of Mosaic Law. In Pauls argument against circumcision, he mentions Old Testament figures such as Abraham, Isaac, Ishmael, Sarah and Hagar in purchase order to explain and illustrate what it means to follow Gods advice ( 421, Galatians). use the story of the birth of Isaac and Ishmael, Paul stresses that Christians should genuinely believe and follow all of Gods advise, not only religious traditions but more so, following the examples of Christ. In addressing the circumcision issue in the Epistle, Paul thereby explains that by itself, the Mosaic Law had no power to save because salvation needs individual reliance and the grace of Jesus.2. Essay on the Books of herds grass I, herds grass II and TitusThe New Testament Books First Epistle to Timothy, twinkling Epistle to Timothy and Epistle to Titus are three Pastoral Epistles attributed to St. Paul but now believed to be from Paul of Tarsus. They are collectively termed as the Pastoral Epistles chiefly because the letters are addressed to pastors or heads of the early church regarding proper handling of the ministry.Together, the Epistles instruct the Bishop Timothy and the Christian worker Titus on the general principles regarding community order and faith. Specifically, the greater part of the Timothy I is devoted to instructions on the proper ordering of Christian community life for it to function smoothly. It also admonishes Timothy on the duties of the bishops and deacons in terms of preaching, praying in public and care for the Church members. Timothy II, on the other stresses the faithful dispensing of the responsibilities by church leaders and provides cost increase to the Bishop. The Pastoral Epistles talk of the proper conduct of both men and women proper behavior wh en inside the Church respect for old and young people treatment of elderly and rules for the enrollment of widows and other prescriptions for good and Christian behavior. They also talk of how to remain steadfast in faith by rejecting false teachings and safeguarding the truths in the Church. much(prenominal) is a suggestion of the pressures against and the corresponding struggles to strengthen the faith within the community. The administrative activities, especially as ensnare in Timothy I tell us that the early Church then was already, or at least beginning to be, structured and orderly and made up of united members. This is seen, for one, in the discussion on the selection of church leaders. These three Epistles definitely communicate to us the difficulties of the early Church. The part in Timothy II wherein Paul exhorted the Bishop to be patient in the face of persecution is best illustrates the serious problems they encountered. The recommendations in the Timothy I and Titus re garding the kind of character needed for the leaders of the Church suggest the earnest efforts to build and interlace what we know now to be a heavily challenged Church back then.In gist, Timothy I and II and Titus portray the picture of the Christian community during the incipient period of the Church. The Books show that times were inviolable but that the early Christians, herein guided by Paul, mustered their faith and effort for the ministry.
How are gender relationships depicted in Chaucers “Wife of Bath”?
The married cleaning woman of tubfuls Prologue and Tale is one of the twenty-four stories which make up The Canterbury Tales written by Geoffrey Chaucer towards the end of the fourteenth century. The premise for The Tales is that of a group of pilgrims each telling stories in order to win the prize of a free meal, the primary narrator is a nave pilgrim who is not described. The Canterbury Tales is written in Middle English, which bears a close visual resemblance to the English written and spoken today. The Tales were unfinished as Chaucer died before their limit and the order of the stories has been disputed due to the frag manpowerted nature of his work. This essay will be looking at sex relationships in The wife of Baths Prologue and Tale and in medieval Literature as a whole.Chaucers married woman of Bath is a middle-aged woman from the west country, who strides into The Canterbury Tales on a large horse with her spurs jangling and riding in the fashion of a man rather than t he military position saddle that was typical of women, ready to assert herself in the compe actually of pilgrims made almost entirely of men. gamy and elaborate in design, the wifes clothes reek of extravagance, her stockings weren of fyn scarlet reede and on hir feet a paire of spores precipitatee lay pop how wealthy she has become from her conquests of men. In the General Prologue where each of the characters is described in terms of their profession she is all the counsel a professional wife who has travelled to a greater extent than almost all of the other pilgrims making her a bold, adventurous and sociable character.Men were the ones who travelled to distant lands in search of adventure, this challenges the accepted ideas nearly gender of the time. This portrait of a woman is very peculiar for a piece of medieval books, men scarper to return the starring role and women atomic number 18 usually featured as beautiful ladies in some(prenominal)er or as ne remotei ous old hags. The married woman of Bath is neither a helpless damselfish in distress nor a typical old crone. She is the set-back of her kind in English literature. The Wife of Baths Prologue is the life story of Alison who has married five times, this in itself is unusual for a woman in medieval literature as it is usually the rogue anthropoid who has multiple lovers. Chaucer certainly informs us of Alisons backstory to a higher degree than he does the other pilgrims. There ar many pieces of literature which condemn women, from the highest class to the lowest, Chaucer does not ignore this with his characterisation of the Wife but rather embraces it to make her who she is. The Wife is noisy and bossy, she torments her husbands and has a large enough sexual appetite to compete with the most sexual of men. unless Chaucer has also made her capable of love, vulnerable, optimistic and argumentative against medieval anti-woman ideas. It is not invite whether Chaucer wants us to see with the Wife and see her as the first feminist and defender of womens rights or if we are to run into her as an elaborate joke of what would happen if a women were to ever have as much license as a man.The Wife of Baths Prologue is different from any literature which had been encountered, as is her Tale. The male lead is not a typical heroic nickname but a rapist, the main womanish role is an ugly old woman and the force of good in the story is a philander full of powerful women. All the standard ideas of gender relationships are both turned on their heads and brought into sharp focus. The Wife conforms to a number of anti-female bosss of the medieval period, stereotypes which were created by men for the purpose of a patriarchal society. She claims that she has a great sexual appetite whilst also boasting that she uses sex to gain wealth. The Wife also tells of how she controls her husbands by the use of her body, a fear which is common of villainous females in medieval liter ature and which males dread. The Wife points unwrap that there are many husbands and wives in the Bible. Some of the greatest men in the Old will were not only married but had multiple wives.Lo, heere the k at a timeing kyng, daun SalomonI trowe he hadde wyves mo than oon.As wolde God it leveful were unto meTo be refresshed half so ofte as he (35-38)This is a double standard in that these men have multiple lovers but that women apparently screwingt. By calling King Solomon wise she is conveying that wise men have multiple marriages. The Wife successfully gives examples from the Bible of people whose marriages were beatified by God despite the polygamous nature of these marriages. The Pardoner who is shocked by the Wifes revelations so far interrupts her story, he says that he was about to connect but is now not so certainly that it is a good idea. straightway, dame, quod he, by God and by Seint JohnI was aboute to wedde a wyf allasWhat sholde I bye it on my flessh so deere?Yet h adde I levere wedde no wyf to-yeere (164-168)The Wife so tells a piffling story about a medieval pardoner who worked for the Church collecting donations from those sorry for their sins and anxious to key out forgiveness. His manhood is called into question throughout the canterbury tales and his talk of taking a wife is probably an empty boast. This is a continuation of Wife of Baths theme of male impotence, she regularly taunts her celibate male adversaries in this way throughout the prologue. It was unheard of for a woman to speak this way about such matters, raze a man would think before directly insulting men of the Church. The first three husbands the Wife had were rich old men who were financially secure. The Wife treated each of these husbands badly and in a very dominating way. By beingness argumentative and eager to start trouble she ensured that they would be watchful to please her. What sholde I taken keep hem for to plese,But it were for my profit and myn ese? (213-1 4)Here the Wife of Bath uses a rhetorical question, it is clear from the tone that she doesnt think she needs to care about her husbands. The misogynists classed all women together as bad and all wives as nothing but trouble. Chaucer both confirms this stereotype here with the way the Wife treated her first three husbands but also turns it around so that the woman is in control for once and the men are indistinguishable without even a maven name between them. Chaucer makes us pity the husbands but it also limns us how below the belt women are usually treated.Chaucer outlines the Wifes general techniques on how she handles Marital trouble which are lying, cheating and accusing the pivotal gender before they accuse you. Lying and cheating were the things that medieval literature always accused the villainous women in a story of doing. The Wife is therefore acting in a very stereotypically manipulative way, and comes very close to becoming the old villainous hag which was a staple of medieval literature. Chaucer makes it clear that the Wife is a complex character and that our response to her as readers should be one of uncertainty. He makes sure we see the good aswell as the bad.The Wife of Bath goes on to describe the lies she would use to keep her first three husbands in line. Shed accuse them of lecherous behaviour and of chasing after the neighbours or servants and then unfairly accusing her about her relationship with her friend. She uses powerful but offensive imagery towards woman in order to get her point across. For as a spanyel she wol on hym lepe,But folk of wyves maken noon assay,Til they be wedded olde dotard shreweAnd thanne, seistow, we wol oure vices shewe. (267-292)The Wife of Bath uses similes to compare women first of all to animals, which should be tried by men before they are bought. They are then reduced even further being compared to ordinary objects such as basins, washbowls, spoons and stools. The men did not say these things and thi s paints the Wife of Bath in a very negative light for her deceit but at the same time other men during her period are guilty of thinking such things. The Wife boasts about how she lied to her husbands about what they say whilst drunk in order to make them feel guilty. This extract is some of the Wifes most blatant deceit and if all women were to be like this in medieval times it would be strike if men and women ever managed to live together at all. grounds liknest eek wommenes love to helle,To bareyne lond, ther water whitethorn nat dwelle.Thou liknest it also to wilde fyr (371-372)The Wife doesnt see the wickedness of her ways as is obvious when she states Yet tikled I his herte, for that he Wende that I hadde of hym so greet chiertee The choice of verb is an interesting one be energize it is much lighter than the portrayal as a whole. The Wife claims that either her or her husband must give in if they are to live in peace, and she says And sith a man is moore resonable he should be the one to give in to a greater extent easily. She then slyly puts in a comment about how she is his alone, implying that this could easily change at any moment. She is exploiting male and female stereotypes here, using a mans image of themselves as reasonable and schoolmaster against them. She is manipulating by saying that if women are so stupid and emotional, clever men should just let them have their way in order for there to be peace. The Wife of Baths youth may have now passed her by but she has no regrets. Her 4th husband however was not a very happy memory for her. She even goes on to tell us about his unfaithfulness This is to seyn, he hadde a paramour. Her dominance and power over her first three husbands now gives way to the more melancholy story of her next husband. Old women in medieval literature quite often show bitterness and loathing when they remember their youth but the Wife has no regrets. Her optimism and her grace in the way that she accepts the passing of her youth shows a softer and more vulnerable side to this manipulative and domineering woman. With the death of her fourth husband The Wife then falls in love with a man named Jankyn who was half her age. indoors a month she had married him and as an act of love she signed over all her stead to him. However, Jankyn was typical of a medieval gender role. He was a dominant man who wont be told what to do by a woman. He demands her to stop going on pilgrimages, stop talk and to generally stop all the mischievous behaviour from her past. He beats her for tearing pages out of a book and tells her of husbands who left their wives because the wives would not do as they were told. And me of olde Romayn geestes techeHow he Symplicius Gallus lefte his wyf,And hire forsook for terme of al his lyf (642-644)The Wife now has to be on the receiving end of the abuse that she has up until then caused, she is the one being henpecked and controlled. She has previously been at a distance from the ant i-women literature of the period, even used it to her advantage against her past husbands. Now she must endure the stereotypically male dominated household she has avoided for so long. The reason the Wife of Bath is desensitise is because she was struck by Jankyn for tearing out a few pages from his favourite book. It consisted of stories by the best know authors of the middle ages which condemned women. For trusteth wel, it is an impossibleThat any clerk wol speke good of wyves, (688-689)She hated this book as Jankyn used it to cause her a great deal of grief, she stated that these men dont understand women yet they are the ones writing these stories. Whats quite interesting is that all the literature she used to control her past husbands was now coming at her in a very real sense. The Wife of Bath asks the question Who peyntede the leon, tel me who? which points out that medieval women existed in a world where everything including art, religion, work, family life and literature was controlled by men.Chaucer pointing this out is well ahead(predicate) of his time in terms of social gender commentary. The Wifes ripping of the book could be seen as a symbolic gesture. The Wife used this literature against her past husbands, she had it used against her by her ordinal husband. The tearing of the book is symbolic of the Wife moving away from medieval stereotypes. After finally destination the prologue to her story the Wife of Bath moves onto her Tale. The story opens with the rape of a young maiden, the rape is described very casually as though it is somehow entirely natural that a woman is violently attacked this way.He saugh a mayde walkynge hym biforn,Of which mayde anon, maugree hir heed,By verray force, he rafte hire maydenhed (886-888)The word raft means he took her maydenhead which is not a very violent verb but it still has powerful imagery because of how casual a word it is. This can be seen as an extreme example of the way in which women are regarded as mere property. The bucks offence was against a woman so it is therefore ironic that women should step in to fulfill his life. They dont do this out of compassion or mercy though, he is to be placed in a powerless position in which the fate of his body is in the hands of another, mistakable to when a woman is raped. After a year of searching for the do to the question of what women want the sawhorse rides back to the court in despair, this is when he encounters an extremely ugly old woman who agrees to give him the answer to his question if he agrees to do something for her. After answering with Wommen desiren to have sovereynetee the old hag asks the knight to marry her. Because our knight did not know what the condition would be he is placed in a far more vulnerable position. He is completely under the old womans dominance, a turn around of the normal male female relationship. The lusty bacheler from the start of the story now hidde hym as an owle, no bimestrial dominant and in control or a stereotype of medieval man.The old woman then gives the knight an ultimatum, she can either be beautiful and unfaithful or faithful and ugly. The knight considers for a moment but decides in the end to let her make the decision which results in her being both beautiful and faithful. With the mastery handed over to the old lady, there is a switching of gender roles with the knight also getting what he wants. The knight is no longer the misogynist monster he was at the start of The Wife of Baths Tale.It could be argued that the Wife of Bath is giving a contribution to the excluded women of medieval society. Through her voice we hear and see all the devaluation and oppression which is always silent in medieval literature due to the authors being almost entirely male. The Wife could also be see as a representation of stereotypical medieval fear by men about women as cruel, emotional and sexually deviant. It is not clear in what way Chaucer meant for her to be conveyed , it is clear however that he wanted her to become a complicated character with many different layers whose gender was a brainish force for the story.
